In November of 2005, Brazil came to a virtual standstill to find out the answer to the question that had obsessed the country: Would the soap opera America deliver the country's first televised homosexual kiss between one Brazilian gay hunk and another Brazilian gay hunk. In the event, it did not. But in the wake of a TV program that reportedly drew a larger audience than the last World Cup final, no-one is willing to take the blame for disappointing viewers. The director claims the scene was recorded. The Brazilian gay hunk involved in the scene was frustrated the scene was cut.
The television show denied having cut the scene, saying it had broadcast all the episodes it had received. The televisions show says there was never a kiss between one Brazilian gay hunk and another Brazilian gay hunk. Even heterosexual men, who tend to be more conservative, wanted the kiss. Everyone wanted to see it. This showed that things were changing in Brazil.
